Easter is fast approaching and if you are wondering what to do with your long weekend, then here are lots of ideas.

Traditional Dutch Easter Activities

The Easter weekend is traditionally spent visiting family, going for a cycle or walk. Or getting those DIY jobs done in your home or garden.

Easter often involves a brunch, some egg hunting and in some areas in the east of the country a paasvuur – an Easter fire. In other parts of the country there are more unusual traditions. Such as Paasstaakslepen in Denekamp.

Easter chocolate is usually more in the form of the Easter bunny or mini eggs than the Easter eggs you buy in Britain.

Notably, Good Friday is not a public holiday, but Easter Monday is.

How about an escape room, Questomatica Escape Room Amsterdam or A Visit to the Science Center NEMO.

Nijmegen

There’s lots to keep you occupied in Nijmegen over the Easter weekend. The MuZIEum is particularly worth a visit. Read Marches, Romans and MuZIEum – the Oldest City in the Netherlands for lots more on Nijmegen.

Texel

Getting to the Dutch island feels like a holiday in itself as you travel on the boat. But once you get onto the island, there’s so much to see and do. Texel is a firm family favourite here: Why You Should Visit the Dutch Island of Texel.

Amusement Parks

De Efteling is a firm national favourite. However, there are plenty of other theme parks in the Netherlands: The Best Amusement Parks in the Netherlands.

The Aviodrome is also sure to be a hit with children who love planes: When Travel Was Fun: The Aviodrome in Lelystad.

Other Places of Interest

If you are a fan of castles, then Kasteel De Haar in Utrecht is definitely worth a visit. As is Kasteel Huis Bergh in s-Heerenberg in the Achterhoek, one of the largest moated castles in the country with great walking routes around the castle grounds.

The Keukenhof is incredibly popular around Easter. Be warned that by popular I mean manic. But it is worth a visit. Or go take a look at the Dutch flower fields.
